FFL / NFA Transfers

FFL and FFL transfers

What is an FFL? An FFL is a Federal Firearms License and is typically held by gun stores, sporting good stores, pawnshops as well as some manufacturers. They are licensed by the ATF to do firearms and NFA  transfers. A Federal Firearms Licensed business is required when a person wishes to purchase a firearm. Carolinas First Defense is a Licensed Federal Firearms Dealer (FFL), as well as holding an Special Occupational Tax (SOT). We are able to receive firearms as well as NFA items from other dealers or manufacturers for you, as well as complete your transfer paperwork.

Important Information
We will require a valid form of government issued I.D. upon pick up of all firearms transfers.
Only the person whose name is on the transferred item's paperwork can legally pick up the firearm.

How does the FFL transfer work?
We can reach out to the company that you bought your firearm from and send them a copy of our FFL. One of our staff members will call you once we receive your firearm and it is ready to be transferred to you. You will then be required to complete an ATF Form 4473 for the necessary background check. For NFA items (Silencers, SBR's, Machine guns, ect.) you will be also required to file an ATF Form 4 and pay the $200 per item tax.

Transfer Fees
  • Title 1 firearms (Pistols, Rifles, Shotguns, Frames, or Receivers) $35 per firearm
  • NFA items are $75 per firearm
We do not release firearms without a proceed on a background check.
